Ilya A. Volfson M.D. has joined ASUI after spending nine years in practice in Philadelphia suburbs where he has established a laparoscopic/robotic urology program as well as has served as a chief of Urology at one of the local hospitals. While in practice in Pennsylvania, Dr. Volfson has been chosen multiple years as a “top doc” by Philadelphia Main Line Today magazine in urological surgery. Dr. Volfson received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania and Doctorate in Medicine from Albany Medical College.
Following his M.D. degree, Dr. Volfson completed 2 years of General Surgery and 4 years of Urology residency at UMDNJ-NJ Medical School. After concluding his residency, Dr. Volfson completed a highly prestigious fellowship in Endourology, Laparoscopy and Robotic Surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center, accredited by the American Endourological Society. In addition to general urology, Dr. Volfson’s clinical interests include cancer surgery of prostate and kidneys using Da Vinci® surgical robotic system.
Dr. Volfson has presented at various national and international urological symposiums. He has co-authored chapters on robotic surgery in the textbook of Urologic Robotic Surgery as well as in the latest edition of Smith’s Textbook of Endourology, and written a number of scientific papers in peer review journals. Dr. Volfson has received several awards from the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons as well as New York Chapter of American Urological Association. Dr. Volfson is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as member of many professional organizations including American Urologic Association, Endourological Society, and the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons.
